Re: Andrew Jackson Dunn
In Response To: Andrew Jackson Dunn ()

It would then appear there are two A.J. Dunns who served in the 3rd Regt and the 3rd Batt. With both units serving in the Tennessee campaign, it would seem to me the task at hand would be to determine which unit A.J. Dunn, buried in McGavock Cemetery, served in.

It is still my belief that this A. J. Dunn served in the 3rd Regt. based on this cemetery transcription located at

http://ftp.rootsweb.ancestry.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/williamson/cemeteries/mcgavock.txt

Company Regt.
DUNN, A. J. MS E 3 26 63

of course with "E" and "F" being similar, there is a chance of transcription error.

I checked the CWS&S again and there is NOT an A.J. Dunn listed in the 3rd Regt. in that source.

I also checked the grave register at

http://mscgr.homestead.com/MSCGRdu.html

Neither A. J. Dunn is listed as having a grave in Mississippi.

At this time I have not been able to find anything that will clearly distinguish between the two men. The only thing I know that will help is order your grandfathers records and perhaps you can find some sort of clue in those papers. Perhaps the cemetery transcription is wrong and Mr. Howell made an error, even though he shows more sources than I care to list.
