...a small skirmish happened in southern Amite Co between Col. Grierson' cavalry and Major De Baun's cavalry at a place called Wall's Bridge resulting in serveral of De Baun's men being captured and wounded. Union losses were 1 killed, 2 mortally wounded and several others wounded.
Col. Blackburn's body was sent for after the war. The privates have been identified, and I have headstone applications ready just waiting on their service records. (I started this last year, and with my job, have only been able to really get this in gear) ( I have also searched the National cemeteries at Vicksburg, Natchez, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, and have not found markers for these men)
I have also spoken with members of MDAH and hope to have a historical marker placed with a dedication May 1, 2009, during the time Amite Co. celebrates our bi-centiennal.
If I may ask, please have a moment of silence, so the memory of these men, and all the others on both sides who gave their all, is not forgotten.
