Thanks, having the man's records answers so many questions. I always recommend that descendants get the records. What I find interesting is that his records indicate that Company E was part of the regiment that continued the fight after the first charge. The number of casualties certainly indicates that the men were part of what is sometimes called "a remnant" of the regiment that continued the battle after the devastating casualties received in the first charge across 400 yards of open fields against breastworks and enfilading artillery fire. I believe it was more than a remnant of the 7th Mississippi that followed Col. Bishop and Lt. Col. Johns until they had swept the federals all the way to the cotton fields.
