Hi Allen! Your very good at this stuff. I don't know how you do it! William H. Renick lived in SC in the late 1700's. He moved to West Tennessee. He was married to Ann Rogers, but she died and he was married 3 other times. This was my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. One of his son's, James Titus Renick Co. D 2nd Miss Inf (he's on the muster roll for Beck's Refiles of Tippah County), James Titus Renick moved to Tippah County from West Tennessee in the 1830's. He had 3 son in the CSA. Andrew Jackson Renick, "uncle Jack" of Co I 2nd Miss Cav. This was the 2nd Miss Reserve Cavalry (State). They call themselves "Citizen's Guards of Tippah County. My Grandfather knew A.J.Renick very well. My Granddaddy lived to be 94 and I remember him crying when he was in his 90's because he missed Uncle Jack. This 2nd Miss Cav Reserve merged with the 15th TN. Cav under Forrest on 5 Feb 1864. The other son of James Titus Renick was Thomas J Renick Pvt. Co H 34th Miss Inf. He's on the muster roll. The last son was William Jasper Renick, Pvt Co. H 14th Mississippi Inf. (1836-1893). This Was my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. They called their company "Tippah Farmers of Tippah County." John Titus and his 3 sons, I know who they are where they are buried and I can find them all on the muster rolls. It's this John Renick, Co. G 2nd Miss Cav that's buried near my uncle A.J. Renick, Co I 2nd Miss Cav. that's making me nuts. I am begining to think my cousin read the 1973 Geneology and saw where the geneologist says "Among the Mississippi Confederate Records (15) we found John Reneck Company G, 2nd Miss Cav. The number 15 is written like a footnote. I don't know if that box 15 or record number 15., then my cousin assumed Reneck the name was misspelled. Why would Company G, 2nd Miss. Cav on a tombstone and an account of geneologist reading this record in 1973 also say Company g, 2nd Miss Cav. I don't think the State of Miss will pay for the tombstone unless it they can confirm it as correct? Or my cousin thinks it's correct and he put up the tombstone from his own pocket? This genologist had a PhD and was a certified Genealogist in 1973. I sent my cousin an email to explain and he hasn't answered. I think this is a dead end and I'll never know. But again, the County Court House in Ripley was burned down in 1864. Most all of the records were lost. You are correct about the Jeff Davis Legion. I pulled it up on www.mycivilwar.com/regiments/cas/ms Organized as the 2nd Miss Cavalry battalion with 3 Mississippi and One Alabama Companies. It was Company A, Gordon. B Company, Captain Gordon and Perrin's Co. C. There was no company G at this time. The Mississippi companies were in Ashland, Ms not far from where all of these Renick's are buried. They were ordered on August 17, 1861 to march to Manassas to join the army of General Johnston. The Alabama Company was Stone's company of Alabama Cavalry. Subsequently the battalion was merged with the Alabama Batallion and a Georgia Company. I think I am right when I say company "G" was mustered in in Georgia. It's called Screven's Company and I am sure mostly Georgia boys. Many Thanks for this info about John R. Rinck Hardin County Tennessee. I'll check him out. You are good at what you do and could make a lot of money as a professional! Many Thanks, Keith
