Two of the oldest medical colleges in the deep South were the Medical College of Louisiana in New Orleans, La., (later known as Tulane) and the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., dating back to the 1830s. Mobile had an extention from the University of Alabama that was the states medical college in 1859.
