Jasper Newman 7th Miss. Co. B.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Matthew Dudley, and I'm a 22 year old college student majoring in agriculture, I have a love for civil war history, and I reside in Texas. I hope to some day be able to join the Sons Of The Confederacy. However I have some genealogy that needs to be proven. I have researched it pretty far and am getting ready to go to Miss..to look into it some more. It involves the possibility of a great cousin, Jasper Newman, that fought in the civil war on the confederate side in my family. Here is how I'm related to Jasper Newman, the son of Benjamin and Catherine Newman. My mother, Maxine Acosta Dudley, married Terry Dudley. Then my grandfather, Mac Acosta, married Adela Elizondo. Next my great grandfather,Peter Paul Acosta, married San Juana Balderama. Next my great great grandfather, Hipolito Acosta, married Elizabeth Newman who was born in Natchez Miss. in 1859. She is the daughter of Elias Newman and Susan Nolen. Elias Newman is my third great grandfather and Benjamin Newman is his brother or in other words a great uncle of mine. Benjamin married a Catherine Price in 1835 according to Mr. Schuberts research on the Newman genealogy forums.Benjamin and Catherine had several children Jasper Newman born in 1843 in Lawrence county Mississippi, Celia Ann Newman, Melissa Newman, Solomon Newman and Emaline Newman, Samuel Newman, Francis Newman, Rufus Newman. I have found a Jasper Newman in the civil war roster book in the 7th Mississippi regiment in the civil war national archives and I have found him in Co. B known as the Bogue Chitto Guards on the 7th's Po Boy's civil war website under there roster section. I am uncertain if this unit was formed in Lawrence county Miss. in may of 1861, in the township of Brookhaven ?? I have also found three people which could possibly be his cousin in this unit from his mother's family. They are Uriah Price,Willliam Price, and T.M. Price. I would very much appreciate it if you have any other known information on Jasper Newman in the 7th Miss. or if you know of someone who does if you could, please let me know ? It would be grateful if you could possibly send me the parole roster or any death records that could possibly be located.

P.S. I have found records of Jasper in the 1860 Lawrence county Mississippi Census he is listed as 17 years old and from Monticello the county seat. Benjamin his father is also listed and is 47 years old, his father was the said Hezekiah Newman my great grandfather who fought in the war of 1812.

Sincerely

Matthew J.P. Dudley
