Thanks to all of you for the info. I have searched the cemetary listing for Clarke County and can find no record. I thought about the possibility of his body being taken home but from Vicksburg to Clarke County would have been a long trek at that time and probably expensive. I am resolved to the fact that his remains are probably somewhere around Snyders Bluff. I will follow up on the headstone possibility.
