Colonel Robert A. Smith late of the 10th. Mississippi Infantry was born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1836.

He left Scotland at the age of 14 years to join his brother in Jackson, Mississippi, becuase his father wanted him to enter the church.

There are in fact FOUR Stones to the memory of Col. Smith.

1. Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh, Scotland erected by the family in 1884 (His family ran a Drapery and Baby Shawls Shop in George Street, Edinburgh.

2. There is also a monument to him with ALL the Family members named at the Family plot in a Cemetery in North London.

3. There is the Monument to him in Jackson, Mississippi, also erected by the Family.

4. There is a monument to him in the field where he fell near Fort Craig, Monfordsville, Kentucky

The Charge on Fort Craig involving Col. Smith was 14th. September 1862. He died in Jackson, Mississippi 21st. September 1862.
