Pvt. Burt's company, the Burt Avengers, appears to be named in honor of Col. Erasmus R. Burt of the 18th. Infantry Regiment who died of wounds in Leesburg, VA.

Pvt. F. M. Burt enlisted in Jackson on May 14, 1862, he does appear on one POW list as Franklin Burt. He was killed in action June 19, 1864 at Kennesaw Mountain, GA.
