I am looking for any information as to the mission of the 37th Regt at Snyders Bluff during the period February and March 1863. My great grandfather died or was killed on 28 Feb 1863 at Snyders Bluff. I have been to the area and located the Snyders Bluff monument but still am not sure what the unit was doing there. I assume, because the site overlooked the Yazoo River, they were there to stop the Union soldiers from going down the river to Vicksburg. Any information or reference material would be appreciated.
