CORRECTION: It WAS the 57th USCT at Ft Stanton and the other NM forts in 1865. We have the morning reports and the correspondence to and from the forts and HQ in Santa Fe.From what you found and what we have it appears that one battalion or several companies were sent independently, if the whole regiment wasn't. They were sent all over the place in NM to the various forts. I'll have to reconcile our two data sets. They were replaced in late 1865 or 1866 with the 125th USCT, the last Civil War Volunteer unit to serve.I would love to know how the 57th got to NM we have letters indicating they marched from Arkansas, but by what route? North to KS and the Santa Fe Trail? Or straight out along the Red River route? Thanks again for your help and I apologize for confusing myself. Earl Pittman
