Re: John Rials - MS 7th Infantry

May I add my two cents:
We need to remember what a huge battle Shiloh was and how terrible it really was. If you have never visited,
you must sometimes in your life.
The fact that the man John Rials lived was amazing.
I also had two relatives there at Shiloh who were wounded the first day and survived.
One because his family was so close they came for him. The other I feel was probably one of the walking wounded
that was evaucated. I know for a fact they were health impaired for the rest of their lives but both recovered and
went back to fight again for the CSA. The qualtiy of the lives of their wives/children/families were also impaired.
I had at least two relatives-one with the 8th Arkansas one with the 10th Arkansas who were probably thrown into the burial pits.
Since this man was released with a disability, he probably went home and stayed there, but I could be 100 per cent wrong.
If you have not checked the 1870 census to see if he were alive, you may want to do that.
Also, the nearest Family Library that the Latter Day Saints/Mormons support may have some good information on him.
If you ever get the chance to visit the library in Salt Lake City, you must.
Good luck.
