It's true that I know less of the regiment's activities in Mississippi and Louisiana than I do of its operations as part of the XIX Corps in Virginia. However, my brief post was meant to provide some explanation for the exaggerated numbers attributed to Confederates in the action at Bay St. Louis, 16 vs. 160, and the unreasonably high count of Confederate dead, seven claimed killed plus Captain Marshall said to be mortally wounded. Troops unused to combat often produce highly colored accounts like this.

Not being familiar with the regiment's operations in this theater, I assume these were not isolated events. Rather than repeat the terms looting and burning, I tried to use more the more restrained wording, theft and destruction. Apparently I missed the mark.

Regardless of how you read my post, you've been able to collect good information about your regiment in a very short time. Having contributed some of it, I expect to offer more if it comes to hand.
