In a previous thread, you included the name of my Great Granduncle, Pvt. Matthew Brinson Stringer (CO G/7th.Miss.Inf.), who was nominated for the Roll Of Honor at Murfreesboro.

I've yet to find why he was nominated, Uncle Matt was later cited in Col. Wm. H. Bishop's report for his actions at the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept. 20, 1863.

"Color Corpl. Mat. Stringer, Company G, who succeeded Color Sergt. W. J. Nunnery as color bearer, deserves particular mention for his cool intrepidity and gallantry. The flag-staff was shot in two when near the crest of the ridge.""

Col. Bishop promoted Matthew B. Stringer to Corporal that same day.
