Re: Lemuel Sutton - 1793 - 186 ?

To Alan Pitts . . .
You asked if Ella and Ada were on a later Census. Yes, they are. I am totally convinced that the entire Sutton family was missed on the 1860 Census in Marshall county, MS. On the 1870 Census, James Lockridge (who is the step-brother) is head of the household at the age of 22. Wesly Sutton is the next one listed and he is 16, then Ella L. - age 14, Ada - age 12 and William B. - age 10. They are living next door to their brother-in-law James M. Wells. His wife is Elizabeth (maiden name Sutton)- age 18. She was born first to Lemuel and Elizabeth V. Sutton, just ahead of Wesly. In their family is Irene - age 2 and an infant (so stated, no name)- age 3/12. Regarding the 1860 Census, I also looked under Tate county. The children were not born / living in Marshall county during their childhood. At the time of William B.'s death in Jan 1871, the family was living in Coldwater, Tate county, MS. The small article said that Lemuel and E.V. Sutton were deceased. William was born in Aug 1860, so my guess is that Lemuel and Elizabeth died between 1860 and 1870. Family story has Lemuel dying during the Civil War. This, I believe is true. He may not have seen any action, but he did die during the time of the Civil War. Ella is my great-Grandmother. She married John Wood Rodgers - 7 Nov 1872 in Marshall county, MS. Ada married Pleasant Marion Mobley - 25 Nov 1908, William died, age 10 and I don't know anything about Wesly. James S. Lockridge married Clara Elizabeth Bond - 15 Apr 1890. He died in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Memphis - 1 Mar 1910 and is buried as a pauper on the outskirts of Memphis.
