Naval Academy according to a narrative written by a grandson. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3274648&id=I650097799 He served as Captain of H. G. D. Brown's Company, Seven Stars Artillery, Army of Mississippi which was mustered into Confederate service at Camp Clark, Bay St. Louis, MS on September 1, 1861.
