Mike, if memory serves me correctly "Letters from the Front: Echoes of the Civil War" by James E. Alford is about the 36th MS. He and his wife both had kin in the 36th, as did I. I recently saw the same markers at Vicksburg for the 36th. My cousin recently found a copy at the Wesson library. Sorry I didn't see your original 2008 post sooner.
