Received an ancestor's military records from the link at the top of this page. His Company Muster Roll shows he enlisted in Aug, 1862, in Guntown, MS, into Co. K of Wood's Cavalry Regiment. In late October, 1862, he received a 10 day furlough. His last muster was November, 1862, through February, 1863, and his service record ends with this remark:
"Transferred + Descriptive Roll given"
Is this a common remark on military records?
He survived the war, and I assume this remark means he didn't desert his company, but was transferred to another. Is that what it means?
