Re: 11th Missippissi Infantry
In Response To: Re: 11th Missippissi Infantry ()

From what I have read, which I admit is not a lot, the consensus of opinion is that the brigades of Mahone and Armistead made the attack on the first line of Richardson’s div (French’s brigade) on 1st June; whilst Pickett was engaged with Birney’s brigade of Kearney’s.
Study of the OR’s of the Union regiments involved throw up many questions, mostly on the verisimilitude of their authors. The Colonel of the 52NY “identified” many Confederate regiments with whom they exchanged fire. Whilst I had no problem with 3rd Ala; 41st Va, of Mahone’s or 53rd Va, of Armistead , I raised my eyebrows at 3rd Ga of Blanchard’s, 11th Miss of Law’s and 105th NC of? ( wasn’t in OOB and I don't think ever existed, could have been a typo?))
However now I learn that the 11th Miss was involved I must apologise to the shades of Colonel Frank for doubting his accuracy. Did other units of Law’s brigade take part? The 4th Ala reported causalities for the 1st June.
I believe the Colonel of the 2nd Miss was named Stone, could it be his regiment that came up against the 81st Penn ( posted on the left of the 52NY) who, erroneously, thought them to be Union , Owens regiment (aka 69th Penn)?

The fog of war is greatly increased by thick undergrowth and foliage!
