An additonal note. Jasper and Perry Counties where Co. B was organized was near Covington County. I recommend looking for the spelling "Briant" as well. There were several men in the 7th Regt. Miss. Infantry whose name was spelled Bryant and Briant. Interestingly there was a company from Covington County in both the 7th Regt. Miss. Inf. and the 7th Battn. Miss. Inf. The same hol;d fro marion County. I have reviewed the 7th Regt. Roster that we have compiled from all known sources, and do not find Matthew Bryant or Briant. The battallion and regiment get confused all the time so I would check listings under both files, rosters, and spellings.
