First Union regiment into Vicksburg?

Terry Winschel, NPS Vicksburg, told me it is the 45th Ill of Logan's Div. The 4th MN Inf history book (1892) says it was the 4th and they were told by a civilian at the courthouse that they were the first Union troops to arrive at that spot. Their history book also says they were to meet a column of Logan's
Div. at a junction just inside the city limits, and when they did not appear, the 4th MN went on to the courthouse. The 4th was the former regiment of the brigade commander that Gen. McPherson granted to be the first brigade from the 17th Corps to go into town due to their performance during the attack of 22 May. A painting of the 4th leading the brigade with their band and the new C.O. of the 4th on foot and the former one on a horse is on the wall of the Governor's Office/Home in St. Paul. I have a small copy on my wall here.

If the 4th MN was not the first into Vicksburg on the 4th, then they obviously were the first of the 17th Corps.

My great grandfather was in Co D, 4th MN Inf.

Any other opinion/information is requested on this matter and thank you,
