Hello,

The 37th Mississippi flag that was being sold is from the Mobile Depot as made under contract by local flag makers Jackson and Sarah Belknap.

These are rectangular but with only 12 stars, whereas the Augusta Depot flags of 1864, also rectangular, had 13 stars.

The Mobile Depot flags pre-date the Augusta Depot flags (October, 1863 and through July, 1864 for the former and late January, 1864 into February, 1864 for the latter).

The Mobile Depot flags were first issued in October, 1863 to the cavalry division of William Hicks Jackson. After that units of the Mobile garrison, Polk's Army of Mississippi, SD Lee's cavalry corps, and lastly, Bedford Forrest's cavalry corps all got them along with other units serving in the Department of Alabama, Mississippi and East Louisiana. The only reason these flags show up in the AOT is because Jackson's cavalry division, one division from Mobile and the two divisions of Polk's army get transferred to Georgia arriving there after the Atlanta Campaign has begun.

The Augusta Depot flags are sent only to the organic Army of Tennessee then resting at Dalton, GA.

Hope this helps.
