Hey guys...Thomas Jefferson (M) Doster was my ggg grandfather...company C (Dowd's) of the 24th. I started compiling info and found his brother, James Lafayette, served with him.
Both were captured at Lookout Mtn and were POWs at Rock Island. I have copies of Thomas J's military records, thanks to a friend who is finishing her book on the 27th MS infantry and returned some favors while she was researching in Jackson. I also have ggg grandfathers from the 43rd and 27th, plus others ggg uncles. Would it be better for me to go to Jackson and get all these records? I have 8 relatives so far...I would like all the records for all of them, a few days or more researching in Jackson might be fun...you think? I have visited many cemeteries here in Tennessee and have located many veterans of the 24th not mentioned anywhere else. I have been listing those of the 24th and 27th buried here. Is there a good database I have not found yet...or would one of you like to write a book on the 24th...and maybe I could help you?
