This man was enrolled at Resaca GA, Dec. 5, 1863, Co. "H", 40th Mississippi Regt., so his service period only have lasted seventeen months. The company roll for March-April 1864 reports him as present, but absent without leave thirty days during this period. The next roll for July-August 1864 reports him as absent, sick. Two other records made at Cuthbert GA list him as receiving clothing at Hood Hospital, so he must have been there Oct.-Dec. 1864. There being no parole records in his name, it's quite possible that Bilbro was sent home on furlough during the winter of 1865 and remained home until the war ended.
