help needle in hay stack

I need a little help with this. I am doing research on Gen. Davidson’s Expedition against the Mobile and Ohio railroad in 1864.some where between Columbia, Miss and Augusta, Miss .a rebel officer was captured leading attacked on Davidson's rear guard by the 11th New York (Scott’s 900 ) ,however only his name was given and he command a detachment of cavalry under Gen. Hodge. No rank or unit listed his name was Frazier and was a Canadian. I found this information in the book entitled “The Story of a Cavalry Regiment’’ by Thomas West Smith. Any information on this officer rank, unit would be very helpful
Thanks,
Ed Miller
