38th MS at Vicksburg

Hoping someone out there might be able to assist. I am working on a project involving a large number of letters I acquired written by Josiah Moore, Captain, Co. F, 17th Illinois Infantry. During the Vicksburg siege, Capt. Moore writes of meeting between the lines with members of the 38th Miss (he even mentions an officer of "Norwegian" descent) A paper in one of the historical journals in (I believe 1900) corroborates this fraternization and the author (I believe it was Jones but I do not have that in front of me) talks of the kindness shown by the members of the 17th. Does anyone have additional information on the interaction between the two regiments and any more detail on the movements/actions of the 38th particularly between May 19th and July 4th?

Thanks for any assistance.
