James:

Your grandmother's death record can be ordered from the Louisiana State Archives Research Library, Vital Records Section. There is an index of death records provided on their website, and your grandmother's name appears in the index as follows:

Mary M. Morgan
Date of Death: 5-6-1954
Place of Death: Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana
Age at Death: 74
Volume Number: 6
Page Number: 692

Please note that the year of her death was 1954, and not 1964.

You can print out a request form at their website. First, find your grandmother's name in the index, and then click on the link "order". Fill in your name, address, phone number, and the number of copies you would like, and then print out the form and mail with your payment.

Here is the link to the death records index at the website:

Sometimes the index does not work with certain browsers. If that happens you can print out a request form using the following link:

http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/tabid/643/Default.aspx

This is the form you will need to print:

LFP 3 & LH 8 Public Vital Records Available at the LA State Archives & Application Form.pdf

Then fill out the form using the information I have given you above and mail with your payment.

I urge you to first research and well document the genealogy of your family, for you have not proven your relationship to either Archie McEwen (1841) or Robert McEwen (1821) of Pike County, and you should not feel "comfortable" until you have done so. I was only trying to help by showing possibilities for further research.

There is a free online Civil War Soldiers Index that you can search at the following link:
