Old Liberty Cemetery, Lafayette Co, Mississippi

The Calhoun County, MS chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans have been working to restore the Old Liberty Cemetery in Lafayette County, Mississippi. The restoration has been completed. The Dedication date has been set for May 18, 2010 at the cemetery. The public is invited to attend.

8 Civil War veterans have been identified there with commemorative headstones ordered and in place. They will be honored in the ceremony. In addition a few others Civil War vets are buried there as well. They will also be honored although there are no headstones since these vets are either in an unmarked grave or we have been unable to find any of their living ancestors(to seek permission to order the headstones).

Below are the surnames of the all of the known people resting at OLC. If you believe you are an ancestor of anyone listed, or would like additional information on the dedication, please email me at andybrandon33@hotmail.com.

Leggett/ Baker/ *Bruce/ Barry/ Coffey/ Nichols/ Dacus/ Parks/ Smith/ Collins/ McClellan/ Anderson/ Hall/ Houston/ Cook/ Duren/ Driver/ Dodds/ Ferrell/ Lauderdale/Graham/ Lee.

* grave identified, but can't find living ancestor
** Threlkeld/ Slough/Patton..various sources place these men at OLC, but there is no headstone so they sre in an unmarked grave.
