Retrieval and Reburial of Franklin dead at Splunge

Just returned from a great memorial service (complete with timber rattler!) at Splunge, MS.

At the service, it came out that approximately 62 KIA at Franklin (presumably all MS soldiers) were brought back from the battlefield by Capt. H.J.B. Lann of the 43rd MS and reinterred at the Lann Cemetery at Splunge (Monroe County), MS.

There were sandstones marking all the graves until recently, when the cemetery caretakers replaced the stones with sections of ceramic pipe to make maintenance easier. (These are dedicated, local caretakers who were careful to mark each and every grave, so don't "go off" on 'em!)

Supposedly, an elderly lady has some documentation regarding the retrieval and reburials, but that documentation may only be a statement that same was done and not a listing of the soldiers, whose names, to the best of my knowledge, are not known.

Does anyone have any info whatsoever on the reburial of Franklin, TN, KIA's at the Lann Cemetery at Splunge, MS?

Thanks! -- Jim Huffman, Gainesville Vols/43rd MS Inf.
