George: I think I have made a hash of this thing. According to the records I have he was AWOL or sick a lot during his time of service. He died 7-15-1864. The fact that hed died of TB comes from the family lore. Also his fulll name was William Walter J. Hamner, 11-6-1827>7-15-1864. I don't know what the "J" stands for in his name.

His brother, John Smith Hamner, served in Tarrant's Battery, Alabama Light Artillery and survived the War. The other Brother, Henley Hamner, was in the 38th Alabama and was killed in the Battle of Atlanta and is buried somewhere there.
