Loring's Escort

I went to the MS Archives in Jackson this weekend and pulled the pension records for one of my ancestors, GA "Green" Beard, of Leake County. His pension application says that he mustered into "Loring's Escort" under a Capt "Smyte" and was later transferred to Wirt Adam's cavalry, and then surrendered at Gainesville, AL at the end of the war. I've found two references online to other soldiers with this same service pattern, but I can't find any actual information on "Loring's escort". Does anyone know any history on Loring's Escort?
