The photos of the 9th and 10th Mississippi at their camps of instruction in Pensacola are very much what our men of the 7th Mississippi's camps would have looked like. The Camps at Pass Christian and on Bay St. Louis at Shieldsboro were situated near the Gulf of Mexico, the climate would have been the same, the coastal plains would have been home to pines, live oaks, cypress, gums, and palmettos in both locations. Water would have been from artesian wells and both areas were located near small fishing villages and resorts. I am in the process of having someone create a sketch of camp scenes from the 9th Mississippi with the faces of men from the 7th Mississippi in their place and a few extra men for each scene. That's how close I believe the photos are to being similar. Clothing, uniforms, arms, and camp equipment were also similar.
