Well, at least I know I wasn't missing anything. I only realized yesterday that when he surrendered with Taylor, that was not in the Carolinas. The only thing I can think of is that his detached duty (or whatever reason) put him with Taylor's force in Alabama at the surrender. I have searched on Footnote.com the Confederate soldiers and did not see another J F Raley/Railey who may have been the one under Taylor. More importantly, the card says his residence was Chickasaw County, Mississippi, and that is the right one. So a mystery I guess, but it looks like he survived the war, instead of dying after Atlanta. Since there was nothing on a muster roll after August 1864, I wonder if he was a deserter. But he should have been listed as absent I would think. The records are incomplete. Thanks for assisting me!
