Battle-fields of the South author

I am reading "Battle-fields of the South" by an author who wanted himself, his unit and those around him unknown; probably because the war was still going on when he wrote it. This book was written 1862-1863 as part memoir and part official military history. I am trying to prove who he was and his unit.

Hints:

His initials were T.E.C.
He was English born
The book was published in London.
His unit left Yazoo, Mississippi early in the war for Pensacola, camped at Mobile, redirected to Corinth.
His first company uniform was discribed as "Brilliant uniform of rifle green with red facings and gold lace."
Battles he witnessed; Bull Run, Antietam, Fredricksburg.
Promoted to the staff of a Artillery Unit as a Lt.

My guess is he was Thomas E. Caffey of Company D, 18th Mississippi after trying to compare events in the book. I see others on the internet have also came to this conclusion. Anybody have anything to the contrary?

Thanks
David Upton
