I am searching for more information on my GGGrand father, Frank Rouleau. He was a French Canadian who enlisted with the 2nd Mississippi Infantry Company C. in Columbus Mississippi on July 18, 1861. He was captured at the battle of Chancellorsville on April 29, 1863, then swore an oath to the Union. I am really trying to figure out how a 25 year old man from Canada ended up fighting for Mississippi. He ended up living the rest of his life in Philadelphia. Any help or insight would be apprciated.
