Gettysburg took a severe toll on Company B, 11th Mississippi. Of approximately 25 officers and enlisted men in the company, it would have been remarkable for even one or two to have escaped unharmed. The reason was that the 11th Mississippi was the left regiment in the brigade during their charge on Cemetery Ridge on 3 July, and Company B was the left company of the regiment, which meant that it would have received the full brunt of a frontal and flanking fire from a lot of Yankees. In Baxter McFarland's study, he indicates Captain George [W.] Morton was badly wounded, and Lt. [William D.] Nunn was killed, but no mention is made of (Lt.?) McCloud. A couple of other soldiers in the company were reported in different sources: Thomas H. Wilson is listed as wounded and captured, and Private Alkana McHenry was also wounded and captured - his left leg was amputated and he must not have survived since he is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY, which I am guessing was the burial place for Confederates who died at the hospital on David's Island, NY. Incidentally, if H. C. McCloud was a medical doctor, he was among at least 13 other physicians who were represented as officers or served in the ranks of the 11th Mississippi.
