I am writing about my great-grandfather's experiences in the Civil War, basing them on his letters to his wife in SC One of the last letters he wrote, dated August 12, 1863 from Montgomery AL gives a first-hand account of the wreck. He calls it a "run-off" which was a typical occurence due to the condition of the various gauge tracks. If anyone is interested I will transcribe his account and post it.
