Meridian Campaign

I have been reading some interesting accounts of the Meridian Campaign. Many accounts of families standing by sobbing while their food and transportation is taken and their log cabins are burned. The area of destruction was fairly wide ... is there any indication that this behavior resulted in significant civilian casualties? It would seem to me that the result would be similar to Katrina, with casualties incurred by the very old and infirm.

Any census / graveyard / Rankin County gurus out there?

Anyone aware of any first-hand accounts of refugees fleeing the devastation?
