Hello, I am trying to discern which unit my 3rd great grandfather, Harvey Edwards, was in. I've tried a gazillion different google searches, none of which have solved my query, however, several searches have brought me to this particular site. On his military record it lists: his "current" service as the 38th Indiana Infantry, and prior service as:

B, 1 Miss M B W S Vol. Cav.

I've tried various searches for both Mississippi and Missouri, assuming S. Vol Cav means southern volunteer cavalry. The M B W throws everything off, especially on google, which seems to think I'm in the market for a new BMW. I do have a jpeg of the original document, if that would help.
