Jamie:

Good search site - http://www.archives.state.al.us/civilwar/search.cfm - I have added it to my research tools list.

I had checked out "William Braden" of the 2nd Alabama Infantry yesterday. There is only the 1861 muster roll card in his file. I also found a single record card for a conscript named "William Braden" who was enlisted on 8 MAY 1864 at Mobile, Alabama and working as a hospital nurse in the Hospital at Notasulga, Alabama on 30 JUN 1864.

William M. Braden of the 10th Alabama Infantry served throughout the war in Virginia. He was enrolled from Cropwell in St. Clair County, Alabama on 4 JUN 1861 by Captain John H. Forney for the war. He was wounded 30 JUN 1862 and hospitalized in Richmond, never captured during the war, and surrendered at Appomattox Court House on 9 APR 1865.

I also ran down all the "William H. Braden" entries I found at the NPS website - most were from Tennessee - none of these men were POWs at Fort Delaware. So I am left scratching my head over who "W. H. Braden" was that Society researchers found on NARA Tape 47 which contains mostly hospital records for Fort Delaware. No rank or unit of service was noted and I suppose he could have been a civilian although the hospital records usually make note of civilian status. The habit of giving false names to Federal authorities also helps complicate the search process.

I am still interested in knowing where you found >>> Name appears on a roll of prisoners of war paroled at Fort Delaware JUL 3, 1863
(Roll not dated) Captured near Raymond May 7, 1863 <<<

That card does not appear in the CMSRs for William BRADEN of the 3rd Battalion, Mississippi Infantry presented by fold3.com to which I subscribe. Tying him to the 27th Alabama Infantry as you successfully did puts him inside Vicksburg on July 3, 1863. He signed his parole certificate on 6 JUL 1863 inside Vicksburg. Can't be in two places at once! If you have a copy of this CMSR card, then it tells me that fold3.com's records are not complete. It also lends credence to the idea that someone else was using the name "William Braden" or "W. H. Braden" when captured and sent to Fort Delaware.
