Ken,

Although I don't have any direct information, I would suspect that he may very well have been buried "on the field" or in a local Virginia cemetery. It is possible he was moved and subsequently reburied in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond also. Depending where and when he was killed during the battle, his comrades may not have been able to recover his body. Although the Confederates drove back the Federal lines during the initial assault on the Weldon Railroad, subsequent attacks were repulsed when the Federals fell back on their massed artillery. At that point both sides entrenched and the lines remained relatively static for a time. It was August and probably warm, so casualties that fell between the lines would probably at least initially be buried in place as conditions allowed.
