The descendant would very much like to know more about his ancestor's military service, but I have completely struck out in locating additional info. (I should note that I have access to all MS CS service records, which I have perused ad nauseum, without result.)
The soldier is (all info from Dan McCaskill's wonderful online MS CS burials database at http://mscgr.homestead.com/index.html):
"James T. Denney; born April 11, 1817, in Choctaw Co., MS; died Nov. 11, 1890, in Webster Co., MS; Pvt., Co. B, 2nd MS Cavalry; enlisted May 2, 1864; discharged May 4, 1865; buried Clarkson Cem., Webster Co., MS, 14 miles east of Eupora; private grave marker"
I'm assuming that the above data came from a MS CS Grave Registration Card.
I have scoured the various online and print sources available to me and have come up with a mocking "Negatory!!!"
Curiously, I have an index to MS CS Pension Applications, where, I note, one "J.T. Denney" filed, in 1920 in Webster Co., MS, for a CS pension, stating that he had been a member of the 2nd MS Cavalry! However, again, I can find no such man in said regiment!
Any of you Southern Sleuths have any additional info on this man's Confederate contributions? Thanks! -- Jim Huffman, (trying to pass as the) Adj., Gainesville Vols, SCV, Camp 373, Pearl River County, MS
