There is only two pieces of evidence that this flag even existed.
First, the citation in the MOC Catalogue with its accompanying
correspondence.
Second, the photo found in the records of Confederate Memorial
Hall in New Orleans.
Even though the flag is referred to as the "battery flag" we have
nothing to indicate its actual size or the content of the fabric used
in its construction.
Of the two surviving flags of the Battery, both captured at Nashville;
one was 20" X 14" and the other 34" X 38", each made of cotton and
wool bunting respectively. The guidon can be found at the Smithsonian
(62555). The latter flag at CMH (WD#220).
The Pointe Coupee Arty had at least 4 flags presented to the various
companies of the Battery. Of these, two are known to have survived
the war. One was present at a 1895 reunion and the other loaned to
the MOC. No trace of either can now be found.
Would not this search be better served on the "Flag" and "Louisiana"
message boards?
