Unknown Chickasawha CS casualty

To all trying to identyfy the unknown CS soldier who died as a POW shortly after the Battle of Chickasawha Bridge/McCloud's Mill, MS:

I just finished a two-week long running of the muster rolls of the 2nd MO Cavalry.

One of the officers of that unit compiled an "Historic Roll" of the regiment, in which he detailed what each soldier had experienced during the war.

This was compiled in early January 1865, shortly after the Dec. 10, 1864, battle.

He noted each capture at Chickasawha Bridge.

For each of the four or so soldiers he noted as having been captured, there are subsequent Federal POW records that show that each of these men actually survived long enough to be sent to Federal prisons.

So, insofar as I can determine, the unknown CS soldier buried with Lt. Westinghouse was not from the 2nd MO Cavalry.

I'm going to run the rolls of Willis' Texas Battalion ASAP.

NOTE: I cannot guarantee that I didn't miss something in the rolls for the 2nd MO, as those rolls consist of several thousand pages. -- Jim H.
