It appears that William spent most of his time away from his command sick, but unknown to his 1st Sergeant and recorded as AWOL. However, he was eventually discovered and discharged for medical reasons, receiving almost two months back pay.

James M. appears to be either a brother or cousin from Baldwin, Miss.

William D. Tynes, age 24, Private, Capt. Wm. H. H. Tison's Company, 19th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers,* assigned to duty on Surgeon's Certificate January 31, 1862 for active field service by order of Maj. Berry, commanding Conscripts Camp at Enterprise, Miss., enlisted February 26, 1862 at Baldwyn, Miss. by Capt. Tison for the duration of the war, sent to hospital May 2, 1862, recorded as absent without leave since October 1, 1862 remaining so through April 1863 when he was reported absent without leave since April 15, 1863, discharged on Surgeon's Certificate of disability by order Gen. Lee February 17, 1864, admitted Receiving and Wayside Hospital, Richmond, Va. February 22, 1864, received discharge pay 17, 1864, for the 23 months 17 days from March 1, 1862 to February 17, 1864, $452.14, February 22, released from hospital February 23

Tison for the war, sick at Culpepper with measles August, 1861, returned to duty September 17, appointed 4th Corporal September 25, 1861, advanced 2nd Corporal November 1, 1961, wounded June 27, 1862 at Beaver Dam Creek and sent to hospital, promoted to 2nd Sergeant, n.d., promoted 3rd Lieutenant, n.d., wounded August 21, 1864, gunshot wound left hip injuring os ilium, sent to General Hospital No. 4, Richmond August 22, subsequently on Medical Board furlough September 3, for 60 days, extended through the end of the year, destination, residence: Baldwin, Miss., recorded on February 28, 1865 as absent Furlough, wounded, without leave, indulgence expired, no further records
