Isaiah had either brothers or cousins serving alongside him in Company D. The regiment received their paroles on July 7 and beginning July 11, marched out East to Enterprise, Miss. where they were stationed a number of months in parole camp before receiving their exchange. On or about July 21, men received a 30 day furlough allowing them to return home, to return at the end of the period to their assigned parole camps. The 40th were still at Enterprise in October.
