Re: Private Beverly Young, 11th Mississippi

Tom:

Private Beverly D. Young was first enrolled on 26 APR 1861 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi in Captain Reuben O. Reynold’s company of Mississippi Volunteers. This company became Company I, 11th Mississippi Infantry. Wounded on 3 JUL 1863 and captured 4 JUL 1863, he was first treated in an army field hospital at Gettysburg and then sent to DeCamp General Hospital, New York Harbor arriving on 19 JUL 1863. He died there on 28 AUG 1863 of a gunshot wound received at Gettysburg. His remains were interred on 29 AUG 1863 in Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. The “Register of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Who Died in Federal Prisons and Military Hospitals in the North (US War Department, 1912) indicates that his remains were removed from Cypress Hills without giving any date of removal or naming the place to which his remains were taken.
