Major Stephen "Tobe" Davenport was in command of the "Davenport Battalion " of Cavalry, Mississippi State troops. He had been a Captain of Company C, 26 Mississippi Regiment . Family oral history and some military records indicate he was ASSASSINATED 6 miles north of Fulton, Mississippi on 8 November 1863. He was born in Clark County, Ga. but moved to Tishomingo County, Mississippi with his parents when young. He is buried in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Mississippi. Does any one have any information on the ASSASSINATION of Major Davenport ??????
