Stephen Sasser, 3rd Sergeant, Capt. R. S. Carter's Company (Bogue Chitto Guards), Mississippi Volunteers,* enlisted May 1, 1861 at Bogue Chitto for one year, recorded October 31, 1861 as 2nd Sergeant, on sick furlough November 26 to December 11, 1861, listed as a Private October 31, 1862, recorded the end of the year as sick in quarters, admitted hospital January 26, 1863, recorded on the Mar/Apr, 1863 muster roll as present, sick in quarters, surgeon declared unfit for duty due to Diarrhoea of long standing and general dibility, recommeded for discharge April, 1863, no further records

Stationed at Camp Mayson, Pass Christian, Mississippi, Septem-
ber [281-October 31, 1861.
October 13-29.— Left Shieldsborough. Arrived at Ocean Springs
October 29. Arrived at Pass Christian October 29.

Stationed at Camp Clark, Bay of Saint Louis, Mississippi, Octo-
ber 3, 1861.
Stationed near Tupelo, Mississippi, May-June 1862.
May 29-June 9.— Marched from Corinth, Mississippi to Tupelo,
Mississippi, about sixty miles difference.
Stationed at Knoxville, Tennessee, [JulyJ-October 1862.
August 21.— Left Tynerville, Tennessee. Marched into Ken-
tucky.

September 14.— Engaged at Munfordville, Kentucky; thence to
Bardstown, Cumberland Gap, and Knoxville, Tennessee, distance
some hundred miles, not known.
Stationed at Shelbyville, Tennessee, November-December 1862.
Stationed at Shelbyville, Tennessee, January-February 1863.

February 1.— Marched out on turnpike northwest of Shelbyville,
Tennessee. Returned to camp at Shelbyville February —.
March 2.— Returned on picket duty. Remained eight days, when
we returned to camp at Shelbyville.

April 26.— Went on picket duty again, where we are stationed at
this time. Changed camp at Shelbyville.
Stationed at camp near Harrison, July-August 1863.
June 30.— Left Tullahoma on the night of June 30. Marched
fifteen miles to Elk River Bridge. Remained at that place.
July 2-3.— Marched to Cowan Station, distance ten miles. Went
into line of battle and remained until about 9 p.m., then started
across Cumberland Mountain. Marched all night, then came to
the foot of the mountain and remained all night.
July 4.— We marched to Shellmound, distance seventeen miles.
July 5.— Marched to Whiteside's Station, distance seven miles.
July 6.— Marched to Chattanooga, Tennessee, distance of fifteen
miles. Went into camp two miles southeast of town and
remained.

July 13.— We took the cars and went to the bridge on the east
side of the Tennessee River near Bridgeport, Alabama. Went into
camp on the north side of the railroad.
July 23.— Moved camp one mile east of Taylor's Store, where
we remained and did picket duty.
August 21-22.— We left and marched all night and next day came
to Wauhatchie Station. Bivouacked at night.
August 23.— Went back to Whiteside's Station. Remained until
4 p.m., then started and marched fifteen miles to Chattanooga.
Went into camp five miles south of Chattanooga.
August 30.— In the morning left camp, then marched within three
miles of Tyner's Station, where the company remained at the time
of muster.
Stationed at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee, September-October
1863.

August 30.— Left Tynerville, Tennessee on the night of August
30. Marched to McFarland's Springs to old camp
September 8.— Marched to Lee and Gordon's Mills, a distance of
ten miles.
September 10.— Marched to McLemore's Cove, a distance of
eight miles and formed a line of battle and remained.
September 11-12.— At night marched to La Fayette, Georgia, a
distance of eight miles. Arrived there at 4 o'clock a.m. Septem-
ber 12.
September 13-14.— At 3 o'clock a.m. marched out to Rock
Spring Church, a distance of eight miles. Formed a line of battle
near there and remained until — o'clock a.m. September 14,
then marched back to La Fayette.

September 17.— Marched during the night towards Chattanooga.
September 18.— Formed a line of battle.
September 19.— Crossed Chickamauga Creek, the battle now
raging.
September 20.— We engaged the enemy.
September 21.— Moved from Chickamauga Creek, eight miles
from Chattanooga.
September 23.— Moved over Missionary Ridge to our present
line of battle, where we have been ever since and are at the
present muster.

The company has been in no engagement or on any march
since last muster.
Stationed at Camp Cleburne near Dalton, Georgia, March-April
1864.
The company has not been in any march or in any engage-
ment since last muster.
Stationed near Jonesborough, Georgia, May-August 1864.
May 5.— Commenced campaign and have been under fire of the
enemy until the present date.
The health of the company has been remarkably good, casu-
alties heavy.
