Mistaken CMSR's with 4th Mississippi Infanty

Frederick Krauss aka Fred Karauss - Reported to be a former Confederate with Company M 4th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry. Confederate CMSR's list his name as Fred Karauss and report him being born in Germany and list him as a prisoner and is shown as being desirous in joining Union Army and being transferred to Lieutenant Colonel Tevis commanding the 3rd Maryland Cavalry at Fort Delaware and of having special orders from Secretary of War; Edwin M. Stanton for allowing former Confederates to join the Federal Army. Within his Confederate CMSR's his name is spelled Krounce;Krauss;Kruse;and Kraus. A couple of major issues however with this soldier. 1) There was not a Company M in the 4th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry. 2) Confederate CMSR's list him as becoming a prisoner at Frederick on July 5, 1863. This would seem to indicate Frederick, Maryland in the Gettysburg campaign in which the 4th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry was not in this theatre of War. They were however at Big Black, Mississippi where several other former Confederates who became members of the 3rd Maryland Cavalry were taken a prisoners but there was not a town called Frederick in the state of Mississippi. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's list his name as Frederick Krauss and being born in Darmstadt, Germany and enlisted at age 23 in September 1863 and prior to the War was a baker. His physical description was gray eyes; black hair; fair complexion and 5'9" in height. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's list him as being with Company D and being appointed as a Sergeant in September 1863 and was shown as deserting on December 20, 1863.
